ABOUT

ALISON BAILEY is a high-energy broadcast journalist, news reporter, and producer with a passion for journalism.

Alison is currently a radio news reporter and anchor for CKNW AM 980 after finishing her studies at BCIT and already has a growing resume. Her work includes an Associate Producer role at The Early Edition on CBC Radio, internships at CBC News Vancouver in current affairs and television news as well as at News1130, and /A\ News in Victoria.

Earlier this year, she was honoured to be chosen a recipient of a 2010 Jack Webster Foundation Student Journalism Award, and the Eric Moncur Memorial Award, given to a student who demonstrates an interest in national public affairs. In the spring of 2010, she was also nominated for a Broadcast Educators Association of Canada Award for Why can’t you just be gay? a 7-minute radio documentary that explores the experience of a male-to-female transgendered woman.

Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Alison is keenly aware of the issues that are important to the people in this city, and enjoys exploring them through journalism. She is a graduate of the University of British Columbia in English and Sociology. Those four years gave her the invaluable skill of being able to look critically at issues in society. While at UBC, she got her first taste of journalism while writing for The Ubyssey student newspaper and knew that once she finished her B.A., she had to take journalism further.

Alison is looking forward to what is ahead. She is trained in both radio and television, and already has experience reporting, producing, and writing for both. The thrill of working to meet tight deadlines, the motivation to tell stories that matter to listeners and viewers, and the need to make a difference have always and continue to drive her forward.
